This cocktail was created in Wiltshire in 2019 as the centennial Wessex version of the world-famous drink originally created in 1919 for a Mr Camillo Negroni by Fosco Scarselli at Caffe Casoni, Florence.
Loved by such wonderful people as Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles, Enzo Apicella and the late lamented Anthony Bourdain, this cocktail has had many variations in its constituent alcoholic content.
The Wessex Negroni No.1 version finally saw the light of day in late 2019 - one hundred years after its creation in Italy and after hours of very messy tastings by our wonderful team of volunteers over three counties of Wessex.
The Wessex Negroni No.1 contains equal measures of Ramsbury Gin from Wiltshire (40% abv), Bramley & Gage Sweet Vermouth from Gloucestershire (18% abv) and Campari (25% abv).
There are three other versions designed for people who prefer vodka to gin or a dry as opposed to a sweet vermouth:
No. 2 Vodka, sweet vermouth, Campari
No. 3 Gin, dry vermouth, Campari
No. 4 Vodka, dry vermouth, Campari
