This started life in 2019 as the centennial Wessex version of the world famous cocktail originally created in 1919 for a Mr Camillo Negroni by Fosco Scarselli at Caffe Casoni, Florence.
Loved by such wonderful people as Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles, Enzo Apicella and the late lamented Anthony Bourdain, this cocktail has had many variations in its constituent alcoholic content.
The Wessex version finally saw the light of day in late 2019 - one hundred years after its creation in Italy and after hours of very messy tastings by our wonderful team of volunteers.
The final edition contains equal measures of Ramsbury gin from Wiltshire (40% abv), Bramley & Gage Sweet Vermouth from Gloucestershire (18% abv) and Campari (25% abv) producing a wonderful drink with an abv of 27.7%.
It certainly helped make all the Lockdowns less boring and has obtained some excellent customer
For the classic version as an aperitif drink 5cl with a large ice cube and a slither of orange.
A new idea that is much loved in Manton (and other places) is adding Prosecco to make a wonderful and refreshing long drink

Took me back to my youth with the flavours of Campari and Vermouth. Too bitter for me when neat, but delicious with a mixer as a long drink.
Tried and the No1 and No3, both I found a delicious twist on a great aperitif.
Found this had a bitter aftertaste that I didn’t appreciate. Preferred No.3.
Number 1 Negroni is especially fab mixed with Prosecco!
